Solar panels being installed on a new carport structure at Rainbow Acres, supporting energy independence and long-term sustainability for the nonprofit Ranch.

Rainbow Acres is taking a meaningful step toward long-term sustainability with the installation of a new solar energy system across campus. This project is designed to reduce operating costs, increase energy independence, and steward resources responsibly—so more support can be directed where it matters most: serving our Ranchers.

Solar panels are now installed on multiple rooftops throughout the Ranch, allowing us to capture clean, renewable energy each day. In addition, steel framework is being constructed in the Palmer Center and Freese House parking lots, creating new shaded carports that will also generate solar power. These structures improve daily comfort on campus while contributing to the Ranch’s energy needs.

By early 2025, the solar system is expected to be fully operational and capable of producing up to 95 percent of Rainbow Acres’ electricity. This level of energy independence will significantly reduce reliance on external power sources and help stabilize utility costs over time.

The financial structure of the project was designed with sustainability in mind. Savings from reduced electricity expenses will be applied directly toward monthly loan payments, allowing the system to pay for itself in approximately ten years. After that, the cost savings will continue to benefit the Ranch—supporting programs, facilities, and the community that make Rainbow Acres home.

This solar project reflects Rainbow Acres’ commitment to thoughtful growth, responsible planning, and long-term care for both people and place. It is one more way we are working to ensure a stable, mission-driven future for the Ranchers we serve.
