Life Skills Courses
Each quarter, Rainbow Academy offers a rotating schedule of Life Skills courses that help Ranchers make sound choices for progressive personal and social growth. The education team assists Ranchers with selecting classes that benefit them the most. Ranchers can choose from courses such as Self Esteem, Teamwork, Social Skills, Problem Solving, Time Management, Basic Banking and more. Ranchers can take up to 18 different Life Skills courses over multiple quarters.
Project Discovery
Our Life Skills courses utilize Project Discovery, a curriculum developed by Education Associates, an industry leader in educational experiences for learners with special needs. This nationally-renowned program has been used by more than 5,000 organizations (including middle schools, high schools and non-profits) to provide instruction for persons with developmental disabilities.
Project Discovery features dynamic, hands-on learning modules that include competency requirements, assessments, activity worksheets, and DVDs with computer activities. The curriculum has been field-tested in classrooms with individuals of all ability levels, even those who are severely challenged. Our educators utilize SMART boards, video segments and other methods to provide the Ranchers with a flexible, interactive and engaging learning experience.
Taber Computer Lab
The Life Skills courses are taught in the Worden Taber Center, a newly-renovated educational facility that houses the classrooms and computer lab. The Taber Computer Lab features computer workstations that Ranchers can use to learn basic computer skills, help with their coursework, engage in activities and stay in touch with their families. Adjacent to the computer lab, our Media Library offers access to books, games, puzzles, movies, computer games and instructional guides.
