For many families, the very first question about Rainbow Acres is a practical one: what does it cost, and how do people afford it? It’s a fair question, and an important one. Here is a plain-language look at what care costs, what that cost includes, and the ways families and the wider community share in it.
What Care Costs
The cost of care tuition at Rainbow Acres is $5,315 per month. That single figure covers a great deal, because life at the Ranch is designed to be comprehensive rather than a series of separate add-ons. You can find the full breakdown on our Cost of Care page.
What Tuition Includes
Tuition includes a private bedroom with a shared bath, along with a “great room” with an entertainment center, and all meals and snacks. It covers basic assistance with activities of daily living, administration of medications and management of prescription refills, and staff support that includes 24/7 Caregiver Teams, Health and Wellness care, a Benefits Coordinator, and Program personnel. It also includes coordination of medical, vision, and dental appointments, and round-trip transportation to 12 medical appointments within the Verde Valley per year.
Beyond day-to-day care, tuition supports the fuller life of the Ranch: social, educational, and spiritual activities, Vocational Training, job coaching, and support, and many recreational and enrichment activities. Each Rancher also has a Personal Care Plan, an individualized plan outlining the unique goals, plans, and care for that person.
How Families Pay
Families do not always cover tuition out of pocket alone. Any SSI or Social Security benefits a prospective resident receives may go toward the tuition amount, and the family is responsible for the balance. Ranchers who are employed on or off the ranch may also apply their earnings toward their tuition if they choose to do so.
Scholarships and the Support of a Wider Community
Tuition is only part of how the mission is sustained. In 2025, fees from Ranchers and families totaled $4,747,218, while gifts from a wider community of supporters helped carry the rest.
Scholarship funds are occasionally available; currently, they are fully allocated. Even so, they remain a meaningful part of the picture. In 2025, Rainbow Acres provided $801,016 in Scholarships for Ranchers, as reported in our 2025 Annual Report.
The Adopt-A-Rancher program is another way the community comes alongside our Ranchers. In 2025, Adopt-A-Rancher contributed $300,777 in support. Gifts like these help make life at the Ranch possible.
A Note on Respite Stays
For families exploring a shorter stay, Rainbow Acres also offers a Respite program for $5,500 per month. A minimum stay of one month is required for Respite Ranchers.
